The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) launched hybrid classrooms this week that would enable live-streaming of in-person class activities. Given the fluid situation following the pandemic, the hybrid model in the classroom would improve the flexibility of learning among students.
The institute upgraded eight classrooms into hybrid classrooms as part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative by Cyient Foundation that was founded by BVR Mohan Reddy, who also happens to be the chairman of the board of governors for the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad.
Hybrid classrooms involve a live streaming video of in-person class activities that serve as a two-way conversation integrating remote and in-person students through a single channel. The idea is to use digital tools as the course progresses, accessibility of education and is aimed at improving flexibility and customization of classes.
Hybrid classrooms are the new norm as the classrooms will now have smartboards, AV projection systems, and interactive virtual platforms, shares Reddy. He adds that he is rather delighted that IIT-H has taken the initiative to facilitate holistic teaching and learning environment for both the faculty and students.
Meanwhile, IIT-H director prof BS Murty says that this is a small step towards the Digital India Mission. They have also recently launched a portal, ‘Giving to Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad,’ where many such opportunities to support IIT-H have been listed.
