Sujit and Karthik, Hyderabad-based Chartered Accounts who saw the plight of the poor during the difficult times in Lockdown, started 'Donate Vastra' with the intention of helping the needy. The main purpose of this program is to collect old clothes and make them like new and give them to the poor. They have used social media for this. Recently they received special congratulations from IT Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan.
Launched in December last year, the Donate Vastra has 30 members. Twenty collection centers have been set up in Greater. They make extensive use of social media to gather donor information. They explain their theme in an understandable way. Jeans, shirts, Kurtis, saris, and pants collected from donors are brought together. They contracted with the Tumble franchise in Gachibowli to make them new outfits. Old clothes are sorted by size and given to the needy. The old clothes are treated to remove the stains and are repaired if they are any damages. They are washed and dried before packing.
They are provided to orphanages, old age homes, poor street vendors, and beggars. Recently 1,500 pairs of dresses were distributed in different areas. The team collects information in advance of who will need them based on the sizes. Clothes were also donated to those who come as attendants to patients in government hospitals.
