Drugs are a silent menace that spoils the lives of various young people and adults. Campaigns and workshops are held world-over, but the monies involved make it a lucrative business for drug dealers. However, 10-year-old Tanya Begum from Hyderabad is least perturbed by the bigger story of drug menace. She wants to do her bit and create awareness irrespective of the risks.
Tanya was initiated into the cause right at the age of five when she started reading stories about how drugs ruined the lives of young people and even led to their death. That’s when little Tanya decided to spread awareness regarding the ill-effects of drugs and also promote the cause of healthy life.
Her father also happens to be a social cause worker and Tanya uses her Sundays to distribute pamphlets and talk about the effects of drugs on society. Tanya has so far distributed 35000 pamphlets in various schools. She also makes frequent trips to pan shops to talk about the bad effects of smoking.
And thanks to her efforts, a liquor shop that stood right in front of the school she attends was shut down. But Tanya has varied issues under her radar. She is also an environmentalist and campaigns for the betterment of nature.
Her letters to President Ram Nath Kovid and vice president Venkaiah Naidu have got positive responses and Tanya hopes that someday in near future, there will be a drug-free world.
