Hyderabad
One incident can change lives, and one such incident happened for 26-yr-old Bandi Sravan in 2014. That was the day when he saw a pretty distressed girl approaching many in a hospital asking people for blood to save her father’s life in Prathima Hospital in Kachiguda. The girl also approached Sravan, and he immediately agreed. But before the girl’s father, who was suffering from dengue, received blood platelets, he died.
That incident got etched on the mind of Sravan, who instantly decided to start a blood bank. That’s when he decided to start Hyderabad Blood Donors as he realized there were quite a number of people who lost lives due to lack of blood. And he started as a one-man army, and today he has over a hundred volunteers. Hyderabad Blood Donors was started in 2015.
Initially, he started out on a small scale and eventually increased the number by including friends and family in the cause. He is the go-to person on all social media for donations as he hopes to create more awareness and spread the good word.
Children with thalassemia need a blood transfusion every 15 days, and Sravan is closely associated with the cause. He also approached various celebrities to help him promote the cause and wants to get more onboard so that the message spreads to as many people as possible. Sravan, who hails from Dharmapuri village in the Jagtial district, works as an analyst in an IT company.
While he is progressing well in his mission, he has one hurdle to tackle, and that is fake donors. Sravan says since the pandemic, there has been a rise in the number of people who have been posing as donors and demanding money in the name of incidental charges and vanishing after taking money. He says he has made a list of donors and will submit it to the police when the time comes.
Till now, he has made over 25000 donations and saved many lives. He has a team of 5000 donors readily available for emergencies. Sravan now aims to get more people involved with the cause, and that’s the only return gift he wants for the cause.
