Musi Riverfront officials have prepared new proposals for the Musi cleansing and beautification. It was decided to carry out this project in PPP (Public, Private, Partnership) mode. For decades, HMDA, GHMC, and Water Board officials have been planning to remove sewage in Musi, but it never happened.
With this, the riverfront officials decided to involve the private companies with Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. It is planned to beautify the catchment areas within a 50 km radius of the Musi stream. Proposals are being prepared to develop sky bridges and tourist areas on the river. STPs along the Musi, removal of encroachments in the river basin, diversion of drainage water, removal of silt, construction of cycling tracks are being planned.
The PPP project proposed by the Riverfront authorities will cost at least Rs. 10,000 crore. But then, there are doubts if the private companies come forward to undertake this project. Private companies usually show interest in the PPP model, if they can generate big income after the completion of the project. But official themselves admit of the record that it may not be possible.
