The IT corridor is an area where millions of people are getting job and employment opportunities in the Hyderabad metropolis. Hyderabad Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) recommended to the government to set up 163 km cycling tracks with high priority in Hitec City, Madhapur, Kondapur, Raidurgam, Gachibowli, Kokapet, Kukatpalli, and Serilingampally areas.
The IT sector alone employs about 5.50 lakh people. In addition to these, those from other sectors are also in the millions in these areas. Personal Vehicles are becoming more as a result making the area a traffic gridlock and also a hub for pollution. Also, due to the jobs which require hours of work sitting at one place, people complain about obesity and other health problems.
It is in this context that UMTA has conducted an online survey with city dwellers specifically to devise the infrastructure required for cycling in the respective areas. PowerPoint presentations were prepared and submitted to the Government to take into account the views of the city dwellers and to give greater priority to cycling tracks in the near future.
