The Kondapur multi-level flyover or grade separator work at Botanical Gardens and the Kondapur Junction was taken up in 2018 as a part of the strategic road development plan or SRDP at an estimated cost of Rs 263.09 crore. However, the work is progressing at a snail’s pace, causing much inconvenience to those living in the vicinity.
However, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials maintain that the forest department clearance and land acquisition are the main reasons behind the delay. Also, four major properties are still pending due to land acquisition issues.
Meanwhile, one SRDP official assures that 50 per cent of the work was complete and the remaining would be completed this month. The road widening work has been on, and 79 pillar foundations have been laid.
As per GHMC officials, about 160 properties need to be acquired for the flyover, though they are yet to hand over a few. The 3 km flyover connects lanes and underpass of 470m length and 11m width. The four-lane one-way flyover from Gachibowli will be covering the Botanical Garden junction at the first level. It will split into three lanes towards Hi-Tech city by crossing Kothaguda and Kondapur junctions.
A two-lane ramp from Botanical Garden will join the flyover. Due to this, Hi-Tech city and Allwyn Crossroad-bound traffic will have to take a U-turn for Gachibowli.
