The Roads and Buildings Department of the Government of Telangana is preparing to commence one of its most significant projects this year: The expansion of the National Highway-65, also known as the Vijaywada Hyderabad highway, up to Malkapur. This project is valued at a vast 550 crores and funded by the Central Government.
Since the pandemic and its attempts to financially boost development, this will be the biggest road expansion project, which will begin from LB Nagar crossroads to Malkapur, covering 25 km. The current time to travel this distance takes an average of an hour and a half but post-completion. This is the first leg of the project, post which a 12 lane up and down the road for people, including a dedicated carriageway, considering the numerous accidents they have caused knowingly or unknowingly.
This project will not require any land acquisition, at least in the making of the 25 km stretch, as there are 200ft of space on either side of the road. Apart from the lanes, eight underpasses and two Foot-over-Bridges will be constructed for the convenience of carriage vehicles.
A top R&B official from the state has confirmed that everything is set, all groundwork is ready, and tenders are already in progress. Once the entire thing is done, the work will commence within the next three months, with the worst-case scenario of beginning in December, not later than that. Thus, the entire project is set to be done by the end of 2023. Currently, Vanasthalipuram has been chosen to have one of the two rare foot over bridges, while the second location will take a while to be finalized.
