Phase II of the Metro Rail Project of Hyderabad will see some unexpected rail lines come up, which will make the city more accessible and hassle-free. However, the biggest of this project is going to be the metro line to the RGIA. In addition, the Telangana government is looking at multiple lines that lead to the Airport at Shamshabad.
GMR group, which owns the RGIA, will invest 500 crores in this metro line plan by 2024. This revelation was out after a consultation paper on the tariff revision for the third control period (April 2021 to March 2026) proposed by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd, issued by Airports Economic Regulatory Authority, mentioned the investment. GMR will be investing 10% of the project's total cost (5000 crores) as proposed by the Government.
The Government has also approved the entire plan and has also accepted the contribution by the GMR group. The project will cover 31km of distance to and fro the Airport and is proposed to start by the end of this year and be complete by mid-2024. A particular purpose vehicle has already been designated for the same and is named Hyderabad Airport Metro Rail and will be responsible for all works related to the construction of this line. The HIAL (Hyderabad International Airport Limited) is also in talks with the Civil Aviation Ministry to view the capital proposed for this project.
