The slow pace of works of the Kothaguda flyover and traffic jams leave the commuters frustrated. The motorists and locals are facing inconvenience to reach their destination through this way.
One of the residents of Kondapur says that as the Kothaguda flyover works are moving at a slow pace, the motorists and locals face traffic woes every day, especially in the evenings where the traffic jams from the Kondapur signal towards Sharath City Mall have become normal. Moreover, the narrow road and the ongoing flyover work double the problems.
Another resident says that the stretch becomes even more cumbersome during weekends, with traffic jams that take hours to get cleared.
According to a GHMC official, the main hurdles for this flyover were clearance from Forest Department and the land acquisition, which delayed the construction further as two properties were under court cases. Moreover, as there is a lot of development in and around Kondapur, it has become difficult to lay underground electric cables. The official also added that almost 60% of the flyover works were finished, and by June 2022, it will be thrown open to the public. This 3-km-long flyover at Botanical Garden at Kothaguda and Kondapur junction was taken up by the Strategic Road Development Program (SRDP) with an estimated cost of Rs 263.09 crore. The flyover works which were taken up in 2018 were delayed due to several issues like land acquisition, approvals from the Forest department, etc.
GHMC officials believe the multi-level flyover will ease Gachibowli and Hitech City traffic congestion. Once this project is complete, the Botanical Garden and Kondapur Junction will be traffic-jam-free.
