Another highway is coming to the fast-growing IT corridor. As part of the SRDP, the works of a 1.75 Kilometer Flyover connecting the Outer Ring Road to Gachibowli IT Corridor - Meenakshi and IKEA is progressing at a brisk pace at a cost of Rs 330 crore. A key milestone was completed on Wednesday as part of its construction.
The longest span was successfully installed over the Gachibowli Bridge at 64 meters, officials said. The newly constructed flyover will be directly connected to the Outer Ring Road from the IT Corridor, which will provide a permanent solution to the traffic congestion at Gachibowli Junction. Vehicles coming from the Outer Ring will have easy access to the HITEC side over the newly constructed bridge. Outer can be easily reached from that side. Two ramps (bottom/top) have been set up for this purpose.
The construction of flyover will continue in two directions from Outer to IKEA, Madhapur, and Kukatpally. Project SE Venkataramana said that while work was already in full swing, a flyover was being constructed to connect the Outer to the Gachibowli flyover. He said the flyover under construction from the ORR to Meenakshi would be completed first and made available by the end of June this year. It is being constructed to go directly from the ORR towards the IT corridor and back to the ORR. Two more ramps will be constructed at Gachibowli Petrol Bunk to reach the old Mumbai Highway.
Similarly, construction of a special flyover is underway to make it easier for motorists to travel from Outer to Kondapur during peak hours. While ground-level works have already started, road encroachment works are also progressing fast. With a length of 816 meters and a width of 24 meters, a six-lane bi-directional flyover will soon be available. If these two flyovers become available, congestion at Gachibowli Junction will be completely reduced.
