The Center has decided to make this highway a super information road. The Union Ministry of Transport and National Highways has estimated that it will cost Rs 14,400 crore to upgrade National Highway 44 to Bangalore via Telangana-Andhra Pradesh. The consultant was also selected to prepare a DPR (detailed project report). The National Highways Authority recently signed an agreement with the company. Soon the team will come for field observation.
The report is expected to take nine months to compile. Ministry officials feel that the expansion process will not take long to complete as the required land is already acquired in the past. It will be expanded to six lanes while it is only four-lane right now. There are also plans to build seven meters wide service roads on either side of the road. The initial estimate from Hyderabad to the Andhra Pradesh border is Rs 4,750 crore.
