The GHMC has taken up the onus of cleaning and reviving many lakes in the city, and now it’s the turn of the lake in Langar Houz in the Karwan constituency. The whole plan is to make turn it into a recreational facility by developing walking tracks and lush greenery around the water body.
Soon, GHMC will also illuminate the whole lake and will provide civic amenities that include seating arrangements. Just till some time back, the entire lake was filled with hyacinth and garbage and was in a pathetic condition. Now, it has been cleaned up, and the water body has been rejuvenated. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation completed the job in 15 days, and around 12 tons of water hyacinth was removed. Alongside, lake edge improvements are also being made.
Drones have been used to spray chemicals onto the lake to ensure that the mosquito population is under control at the lake and its vicinities. In addition, HUDA Park, located next to the park, will also be developed. About three lakh people living in 40 colonies around the lake will benefit from the effort, say GHMC officials.
The revival of the lake began after a citizen tweeted to MA&UD minister KT Rama Rao, who indicated the same to mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi. She then adopted the lake, supervised meetings, and took up field visits to make sure that the lake is given a new lease of life.
