The summers have become intolerable in Hyderabad, and the mercury shoots up right from March. With increasing temperatures, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is racing against time to complete works on the existing swimming pools. The pools get a lot of users during the summer months.
As of now, two swimming pools constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore are ready for inauguration. The facilities are on the ground floor of the GHMC multi-purpose sports complex in Kukatpally. The first floor of the sports complex houses the badminton court, which has been a huge hit among sports enthusiasts and locals.
Of the two pools built, one is for children and the other for adults. The kid's pool is three feet deep, and the adults' pool has depths ranging from 4 feet to 7 feet. A new modern filtration system to keep the water clean and an underground illumination system inside the pool allow for clear visibility, and these make the pools on par with private players.
The kids' pool has aesthetically done paintings on the floor and designs of fish. Care has been taken to have lockers for swimmers and separate washrooms for men and women. Also, the GHMC officials reiterate that top priority has been given to the safety of the swimmers. The construction quality of the pools is of the top order. Apart from good visibility, people will also get to know the quality of water due to the underground illumination inside the pool, says one official.
Also, for six swimmers, there will be one dedicated coach taking care of them. This apart, ample space has been provided at the kid's pool as their parents can hang out and keep an eye on their children. Swimming costumes and safety gear will be in place at the facility.
