Hyderabad
The city is growing rapidly, and so is the density of population. Thanks to this, the traffic density too has peaked, and the situation is the same all over the city. However, with most offices calling back employees to work, the IT corridor is bustling with people and traffic. Hence, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has decided to widen two major service roads within these limits.
One is the 7.5 km Nanakramguda – Telangana State Police Academy stretch and the 14.5 km Narsingi-Kollur stretch. The two-lane roads are being converted into four-lane roads at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore by the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a wing of HMDA.
The HGCL plans to complete the road widening program by February 2023. As of now, underground utilities are being shifted, and works are underway at a brisk pace, according to an HMDA official. As a part of the program, trees along the stretches will be translocated. The junctions on the roads will be beautified by developing greenery.
The widening will have lane carriageways, footpaths, central meridians, drains, and greenery. Once the roads are widened, commuters using ORR service roads to reach Gachibowli, HITEC City, Nanakramguda, Kondapur, and other locations will be benefited. As the existing two-lane service roads are narrow, commuters are facing severe problems during peak hours.
In the process, the HGCL is restoring the entire ORR road from Gachibowli to Shamshabad to reduce the problems of commuters. The Gachibowli to Shamshabad stretch is an important road connecting the eastern and southern parts of the city to the IT corridor. People living in LB Nagar, Attapur, Rajendra Nagar, Badangpet, Adibatla, and other areas use this ORR stretch to reach Nanakramguda, Madhapur, Gachibowli, and other areas. People from Kondapur, Nanakramguda, and other areas use the ORR stretch to reach the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad.
