KVB Reddy, MD, CEO, L&T Metro, said that the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has allowed the Hyderabad Metro trains to run faster. Permission was granted to travel another ten kilometers faster than the current speed. The speed of the trains was inspected by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety on the 28th and 29th of last month.
The trains were stable and proven safe even at that speed and so the speed limit has been increased. As the speed increases the time to travel to distant places will decrease. The new speed limit saves six minutes between Nagole - Rayadurg, four minutes between Miyapur - LB Nagar, and 1.15 minutes between JBS - MGBS.
Previously the metro trains used to go at a speed of 70 KMPH. Officials announced that it would go at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour going forward. However, this speed usually decreases somewhat as the trains have to stop at each station. HMRL is also upgrading its signaling software to fully utilize the system’s potential leading to better operational efficiency and effectiveness.
