March 8 happens to be women’s day and the whole month is more or less dedicated to women and women achievers of all kinds. But depicting the beauty and strength of ordinary women are the subjects of Kandukuri Ramesh Babu, who is holding a solo exhibition of his photographs titled ‘An Ode to Womanhood’.The exhibition is now on at Samanyshastram Gallery in Manikonda. The 70 odd photographs talk of various moods and various facets of women going about their daily lives. Most of his subjects are rural women whom he has beautifully captured in varying shades.
There is a close-up of a woman wearing anklets on her feet along with toe-rings which speaks a lot about how ornaments add to the overall beauty of his subject. Similarly, there is a portrait of a woman with a wicker basket on her head with the sun falling on her honey-hued skin.
Then there is the woman who tucks a bright red flower into her unkempt hair that is utterly striking. Another image that will hold your gaze for a long time is the one where an old lady with a wrinkled face closes half of her face. She has long elongated ears which shows that she must have worn heavy earrings for a very long time.
Photographer Ramesh Babu shares that his pictures are a tribute to all the wonderful women who made his journey interesting.
