Noticed Sobhita Dhulipala’s jooties in Made in Heaven teaser? Well, then it’s time to take a look at social media. The jooties have been made by Sabista Khan, who moved from Mumbai to Hyderabad in 2015. Initially, Sabista had other plans for herself. She wanted to design clothes. But when she researched the market, she found Hyderabad had too many boutiques. She then thought of bags and belts, but finally settled for jooties.
She saw people wanted hip jooties to go with interesting outfits and there was a gap in the market. That’s when Sabista started making trips to various places to know more about jooties.
Initially, Sabista was curating from pop-up exhibitions and stores from around the country. But that did not satiate the designer in her and that’s when she got into designing. She has an interesting line of jooties that are worn by celebrities such as Soha Ali Khan, Rhea Kapoor, Diana Penty, Manisha Koirala, and Kriti Sanon. Today, her label, The Cindrella Story not only has jooties to go with traditional Indian wear but also quirky ones that go well with western wear.
From a corporate communicator to the designer of jooties, Sabista has successfully made her mark. She says she totally understood the problem of wide-footed women who found it hard to wear jooties. So, her jooties are a solution for such women. After extensive traveling and research, Sabista totally understands the needs of her customers that also include couturiers. She did a dry run in February 2019 and went live in April 2019.
Though the pandemic did create hurdles for her, Sabista says she was blessed to have wide acknowledgment on social media. She has now decided to diversify into sliders and mules for perfect day-to-night transitions.
Her new line will have 13 designs and will go live in May this year.
