Dakhni Urdu is the quintessential Hyderabadi dialect spoken in the older parts of the city and has a certain flavor that lends itself to great comedy. And one person who has made it his cause to use the language to spread positivity through comedy is Shehbaaz Khan or Noor Bhai, as he is popularly known among YouTube viewers.
“Noor bolte mereku. Jahan sui nahin ghusti, wahan sabbal ghusa detun mein.” (They call me Noor Bhai. Where a needle cannot go, I will insert a crowbar). This is one of the most famous lines of Shehbaaz or Noor Bhai. Having started out as a mimicry artiste, Shehbaaz Khan has gained immense popularity in Hyderabad’s old city.
In a short time, he has managed to enchant people with his Dakhni Urdu slang, which has led to his videos becoming popular and going viral. His initial days saw him as a mimicry artist and stand-up comedian, and it is this base that helps him and his team come up with various comedy skits and bits that also carry important messages.
For example, one of his items on jahez or dowry got an exceptional response. During the pandemic last year, he made a video to tell people that it is important to consult a doctor before running to medical stores for medicines to avoid corona. This, too, was a huge hit.
Shehbaaz shares that Noor Bhai is not one person. He adds that he is a blend of various people and personalities he had met in his day-to-day life in Hyderabad. The walking, talking, and pan-chewing style complete Noor Bhai and endear him to audiences between 6 and 60.
Also, Noor Bhai is popular not just in Hyderabad but all over the world. He says providing clean comedy is one of his main objectives. Also, he encourages a lot of new talent and his friends through his shows to give them a platform. He reveals that the popular ‘khala’ character is one such new artiste.
In the future, he intends to entertain audiences on the big platform. He says he was once offered a Tollywood film, but that did not work out due to various reasons. Right now, his team is working on two new projects titled Bakra Apna Apna and Dosti, both of which carry a social message.
