Cacti, the pricky yet beautiful succulents, are a visual delight when one arranges them aesthetically in the house. Well, there are some who are against having cacti in the house, but we think it is one of the most maintenance-free plants and provides a beautiful reason to create a calm corner within the house or in open spaces.
Also, if one cannot claim to be a good gardener, then cacti are just the right plants to have. The thorny ones have their beauty, but the ones with blooms are quite some eye-candy. So, what makes them so special? For starters, easy maintenance vis-a-vis the potted plants, and secondly, they thrive in dry and hot environments.
So, even if you forget to water your ‘plant’ for a day or two, it is perfectly fine. According to Cheryl Xavier, who is into plants says that the best part about cacti is that one does not have to worry about watering them on a daily basis. These desert plants come in a huge variety and are wonderful when it comes to maintenance.
There are cacti such as Easter Lily Cactus and Pincushion Cactus that bloom and are quite eye-catching. Though there is a misconception that cacti are thorny, many have beautiful blooms, though some take years to bloom.
Some of the most commonly found indoor cacti include aloe vera, snake plants, flaming Katy, pincushion cactus, zebra tongue, whale’s tongue agave, and pig’s ear, among others. The best to have happy cacti is to keep them in a well-lit place where it does not get direct sunlight. Also, it is important not to water them. Another important point to be noted is that cacti have to be potted in porous, grainy soil.
Cacti happen to have medical and therapeutic benefits apart from being ornamental.
