There was a time when Hyderabad had cafes that served some awesome coffee and munchies apart from having a good collection of books. Many would remember Crosswords and Odyssey that were quite popular about a decade and a half ago. But times changed, and coffee shops with a library vanished thanks to e-books and digital reading. However, it looks like some Hyderabadi entrepreneurs are decided about reviving the age-old culture. One such coffee shop is the Comic Social.
Enter the place, and you will find the walls filled with Marvel and DC superheroes. It is, in fact, a complete delight to comic readers and lovers. The cafe has some finger-licking Italian food such as pizzas, cottage cheese nuggets, lamb burgers, and lasagne, along with a wide array of comics and a shelf dedicated to rare finds.
From Tinkle to Chacha Choudhary to Marvel to DC to Anime... one can enjoy a whole range of comics curated by publishers from Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, and even China. Books are a man’s best friend, and the culture cannot be lost, opine Rohit Madadi and Sandeep Pattem, owners of Comic Social.
At a time when people have lost the joy of enjoying reading a hardbound book while sipping coffee or simply hanging out at a neighborhood cafe with a book in hand, some city-based entrepreneurs are trying their best to revive old-time memories with their new coffee places.
On the other hand, Nishanth Sinha, founder of Roastery Coffee House in Banjara Hills, feels good food and great books make for a perfect combination. Roastery serves yummy finger foods such as fried eggs, sausage, paprika cheese balls, chicken wings, and burrata, along with providing wi-fi connectivity so that their clientele can read e-books. Sinha says it’s all about keeping the culture of reading alive while eating good food.
Coffee Cup in Sainikipuri is another such place where one can sip hot coffee while sifting through books to either read or purchase. In fact, the customers of all the above-mentioned places feel that a great cafe ought to have some recreational set-ups for the clientele to have a homely, happy, and contented experience.
