Usually, dentists are busy mending their patients' teeth; but this Hyderabadi orthodontist has gained thousands of followers on Instagram by reviewing the city's restaurants – not in Hindi or English – but in proper Dakkhani Hyderabadi lingo.
Dr. Ahmed Ashfaq's Instagram handle has over 25,000 followers who are not just from Hyderabad but across India.
Ahmed says that just like most of the Hyderabadis, he too is who loves to explore new food outlets. Initially, he started with posting pictures and putting the reviews as a caption on Instagram. And then later started making the videos. Ahmed says that one day the app that he used to add music didn't work, which made him add a voiceover in which he reviewed the food in Hyderabadi lingo, which was liked by many. Then he started uploading reels with his voiceover regularly. Since reels have way more visibility than photos on IG, not just the people from the city but many from other States also have been watching and liking his content.
Talking about why he chose Hyderabadi for his voiceovers, Ahmed says that most content on social media is either in English or Hindi, so he wanted to try something different. 'Dakkhani' is a very special and relatable language for Hyderabadis.
His reels have become so popular that many star hotels have started inviting him to review their food too. There are many amazing food outlets in Hyderabad that he has reviewed, including Marriott, Shaadab, Dine Hill Restaurant, and Park Hyatt.
Apart from being a doctor and food reviewer, Ahmed is also a baker, and along with his sibling and mother, runs a bakery Le Tesoro, at Banjara Hills. Ahmed says that they are working on expanding their wings now and getting a proper outlet for the bakery.
