One of the reasons why Hyderabadis wake up before sunrise is Niloufer café's forever and age-old favorite breakfast, malai bun. Served only in the Lakdikapul lane till about 6 am every day in the morning, the malai bun is everyone's dream breakfast. As the name itself suggests, Malai Bun is a lip-smacking combination of some freshly baked bun and cream (malai).
The malai is usually dressed with a teaspoon of sugar which tastes perfectly sweet and salty at the same time while making many feel like just licking the rest of it. And the combination of bun and malai has the power to transport people into another world.
As one visits the cafe, one can see that the customers swarm like bees around the malai container and get delighted with every serving of the creamy savory.
One customer from Masab Tank says that although they have had the combination many times, the excitement for the morning breakfast is always at its peak. It is stomach-filling and also pocket-friendly to have something so good at just Rs 60.
With the emergence of diverse breakfast options, the malai bun had lost its charm over the years. However, cafés like Niloufer, Chattu Ram Yadav Milk Shop (Chudi Bazar), and Nimrah (Charminar) have tried to keep the savory alive in the memory of the Hyderabadis.
