Hyderabad has a good number of Christians, and if one goes around the city, one can see that various churches have been lit up for the upcoming Christmas festival. The festivities that have already begun will go on up to New Year’s eve, and various parishes are taking strict measures to make sure that all COVID protocols are followed religiously.
Though the city was happy that the second wave was ebbing, the sudden development of Omicron has left many distressed and scared. However, the Christmas celebrations this year will continue with lots of fervor but with utmost care.
Nativity scenes are being put up at various churches, and the choir singers are practicing prior to the big festival. Already some choir groups are going home to home to spread the cheer of the season, while some churches are having choir evenings on the premises.Fr Valentine from St Joseph’s Church in Bolarum says the church had only recently concluded the year of St Joseph with three days of special prayers, mass, games, competitions, and processions with the statue of St Joseph on church premises. He says youth from his church are already going from home to home to spread the word of the Lord.
Catherine Stanley from Agape Church in Chanda Nagar says they have stopped going house to house carol service. She shares that as part of the celebrations, they had a potluck wherein the members brought in awesome home-cooked food. However, she says there will be no skits or dances this year as many are concerned about the COVID spread.
Meanwhile, churches like the Bethel Church in Moula Ali have put up posters asking the parish members to follow all COVID protocols before entering the church and while exiting.
