Food... not one day goes without craving for yummy variations as the current generation is overloaded with food videos and write-ups about food. Well, while there is no getting away from this reality, it will come as no surprise that the most ordered food in 2021 was, well, you guessed that one right, chicken.
Thanks to COVID, people literally binge-ate chicken, and most ordered foods were ready-to-cook items in Hyderabad. Chicken ghee roast, spicy Chettinad chicken, Granny’s masala fried chicken, yummy chicken cutlets, and handcrafted chicken dumplings/ momos, according to reports.
While chicken topped the list, this was followed by fish, mutton, and eggs, according to a report by FreshToHome, an online fish and meat e-commerce site. The site shares that chicken, mutton, fish, and prawns were the most ordered on their site.
Incidentally, chicken and rohu fish were the most ordered across north India, though down south, chicken and sardine were most wanted, followed by mutton. Surprisingly though, the chicken was also the most ‘added to cart’ item that was forgotten across Indian cities.
In fact, 2021 proved people’s love for chicken, though fish was a close runner-up as it was a major protein provider. According to FreshToHome, meat, fish, and seafood were on top of the list during Christmas time. Green mussel, native to New Zealand but well-liked by Indians, literally flew off the shelves, says the site. Fish, mutton curry cut, chicken breast fillet, and chicken cube were also much in demand.
Interestingly, Delhi ordered the most number of chicken drumsticks, while Kerala binged on basa/ pangas fish. Chennai relished chicken gizzard, and Bengaluru simply loved tangy chicken. The report also states that the highest spender on chicken, fish, seafood, mutton spent Rs 9.6 lakh in one year, i.e., 2021.
