Driven by the Omicron variant, the third wave of the Covid pandemic does not seem to have upset many wedding plans in Hyderabad. The auspicious first weekend of February saw several weddings taking place in the city, even as many were seen following all Covid-related protocols.
Many function halls in various parts of Hyderabad, ranging from Attapur to Diamond Point to Saidabad to Sagar Ring Road, were decorated with flowers and festive lights. On Saturday, it was the auspicious occasion of Vasantha Panchami, and Sunday was also considered an auspicious day for marriages. Many attended weddings in traditional clothing and relished sumptuous meals.
Krishna Rao, a resident of Hyderabad, said that there was no change in plans from the groom or bride's families, and although they were a little skeptical about the third wave, they still went ahead as the guest list was limited. Moreover, at the marriage festivities, they followed all Covid protocols by providing sanitizers at designated spots and also requested guests to wear masks at all times.
