Common courtesy is a thing of the past in this fast-paced life. But using the words please, thank you, have a good day makes a lot of difference during inter-personal interactions. Dakshin 5, a boutique restaurant in Hyderabad has come up with the concept of offering a discount if one indulges in common courtesy during their visit to the restaurant.
So, if you say one thali please, you will get a discount of Rs 15 on a thali worth Rs 165. Similarly, one will get a discount if they say things like ‘have a good day’ or ‘good afternoon’ to the staff. According to AK Solanki, one of the owners, since common courtesy has become very uncommon, they are trying to bring it back into our culture in a small way.
Incidentally, the restaurant has put a huge signboard announcing the same and it is one of its kind restaurants, at least in Hyderabad. The restaurant business is routine and quite hectic. Many a time, the staff will be hassled due to heavy crowds and this can cause unpleasantness. To address this, the restaurant feels using common courtesy will break the unpleasantness and cultivate a win-win atmosphere. Sanjeev Kumar, the other owner of the restaurant says he saw this in the west and felt it would be nice if he introduced the same in his restaurant.
There is another unique feature ‘Elder the Better’ at Dakshin 5. It is to encourage the elders to come out and dine and also to make sure that the younger ones bring their elders with them. If a diner is accompanied by an elderly person, then the restaurant offers a discount amounting to the age of the elder person.
