Gayathri Krishnan was in a senior leadership position in the corporate sector for more than two decades in Hyderabad. And post that, she decided to take a detour and turn into an entrepreneur. She started off by opening a uni-sex salon only to realize that the men’s grooming segment was unorganized. That’s when she thought of setting up Trim-X, a men-only salon chain.
At Trim-X, one can rest assured of clean, quick, and professional service at affordable prices. In fact, Gayathri’s business model is simple – she wants Trim-X to be your go-to barbershop while providing luxury at affordable prices. She achieved this by cutting down on the operational costs of running a salon. For example, all her 25 plus outlets have four chairs across the city. She has even named it her ‘four chairs’ concept.
Also, she was a shrewd businesswoman who bought realty during the first wave when the real estate prices were really low. Another plus was that she worked with a major telecommunications company, and that taught her to tackle situations at ground zero. Hence she understands the importance of customer relationships.
While she has had to learn a lot about men’s grooming, her big problem is with attrition. So, she now intends to start a training academy. As of now, the stylists at her salons are trained for a week and get another round of training every two months. They also get accommodation and travel reimbursement.
In the near future, Gayathri plans to launch her line of everyday grooming products, from hair creams to deo sticks made from plant-based ingredients. Her ultimate goal is to inculcate the good old habit of daily grooming among men.
