Times are such that a lot of people who depend on their talent for survival are finding it hard to make their ends meet. Most hit are artistes, performing artistes who haven’t had shows right from the past year.
Since most of them depend on the money they make on shows, they are finding it difficult to make ends meet and pay their bills. Helping such artistes is The Nation’s Rock Band or NRB, which is run by Shriya Gupta exclusively to provide a platform for 500 artistes.
Her idea is to bring together upcoming, genuine talent and then showcase them to the world. She uses the online platform to organize gigs, live Instagram shows, dance jams, music gigs, and open mics. NRB has been raising funds for these artistes and also COVID victims through such shows. Shriya Gupta says that the online participation of the audience keeps the artistes going. Money can never buy such happiness, she says.
The NRB has also been working with local start-ups and businesses as a give-away program to attract more audiences for their shows. One of the artistes confides that jamming with artistes from different places, virtual rehearsals, online sessions helped her develop positivity during these times and have also helped her tide through a depressive phase.
One artiste shares he was awe-stuck by a small 12-yr-old boy who performed on an open mic, which gave him loads of inspiration. Similarly, another beatboxer says that some of the beatboxers held a workshop, which helped him hone his skills, all thanks to NRB.
