Sridevi Jasti, a celebrity nutritionist and a champion of veganism in India, is all set to open a school in Gundala, Adilabad district. This will be done through her NGO Deliciously Healthy, where good, nutritious food and education will be top priorities.
But Sridevi’s journey in the city has been a long one. Married to a foreign national, Sridevi would visit Hyderabad often to make sure her son learned Telugu from others, apart from her. Sridevi has fond memories of her childhood and fondly remembers her mother for making wholesome, good food at all times of the day. She says it is this passion of her mother that got into her. So, when the time came for her to choose a course, it was a no-brainer says Sridevi, who did her graduation in nutrition.
She was a vegan for a very long time, and she opened Vibrant Living 12 years ago. And she has been promoting the concept of healthy, nutritious, and vegan eating through various media channels and social media. In fact, Sridevi says she happened to do a food show on television without using the word vegan, as many in India shunned the word at the time.
Today, India is fast-tracking on veganism, and Sridevi surely has the last laugh. However, even today, she is careful about people being averse to the term vegan. In fact, she says her store in Prashant Hills, Raidurg, is all about clean, vibrant, raw, and plant-based superfoods that are traditional, tasty, and truly healthy in the true sense of the term.
Her experimental nature helped her a lot in managing her store and her concept of promoting ‘good food’ versus ‘bad food.’ Sridevi says living, eating, and experimenting in places such as Canada, Dubai, Russia, and the US helped her gain valuable lessons in terms of food.
She says she thinks of herself as a mother hen who is out to help people understand that concept of good food without having any preconceived notions. Well, that’s her mission for now, surely.
