Aisha Rao, a city-based designer, once again grabbed the attention at the Lakme Fashion Week with her sprightly designs and simple silhouettes. This year was special for her as she focused on using traditional fabrics by making them look ‘new age.’ Also, she had her friend Mira Rajput walk the ramp for her as her show stopper.
When one thinks of Aisha, then one automatically tends to imagine a lot of color, vibrancy, and bright colors. In keeping with her image, Aisha did put up a collection of colors in keeping with the season, but what she did different this time was to focus on fabrics, which she says would have been otherwise ‘in dumps.’Her paper dolls spoke of her mood for the season, and Aisha gushes about Mira Rajput walking the ramp for her. She reveals that Mira married young and went on to have kids just like her and then emerged into this beautiful self organically.
Aisha draped Mira in a lavender-violet lehenga which was made of tissue. Aisha reiterates the reason why she chose a fabric that not many prefer these days. This show was all about putting forth nature and speaking about the importance of Indian fabrics that are now considered passe.
To add a huge splash of color to the lehenga, Aisha had used a lot of natural elements like sunrise, mountains, and waterfalls. And these were depicted with pieces of fabric that wouldn’t have been used otherwise. However, the whole show catered to bring something traditional to a new millennial bride.
