Hyderabad
Well, some events spawn a new line of thinking. And one such event was the recently concluded Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhat wedding. The highlight of the wedding that did not go unnoticed was that Ranbir Kapoor did not reach the venue on a ghodi as is the tradition.
Just about all Hindi films in the past had the heroine dreaming of her hero coming on a horse to take her to her sasural or her husband’s home. But like all things that change with time, it looks like the role of a ‘ghodi’ also seems to be coming to an end any time soon.
Of course, there are those who argue that Ranbir did not get on a ghodi as is the custom since the wedding took place at his house. So there was no need for him to reach the bride’s house. Nevertheless, the netizens have taken note of the point and are now posting on social media that the age-old custom be done away with. And concurring with them are animal rights activists and even wedding planners.
But it’s not the celebs; even closer home in Hyderabad, many young couples are doing away with ghodis and opting for vintage cars and bikes. For the most part, they are all animal lovers and don’t want to hurt the animals, and they want something different for their weddings.
Resonating the same thought are wedding planners who find it challenging to think of new ideas for the groom’s entry. But those most vocal are animal rights activists who feel it is high time the tradition is done away with. They feel it is not right for the horse to undergo the trauma of standing right in the middle of loud music and louder firecrackers.
