On Sunday in Match 3 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) crashed to a defeat vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The Hyderabad lost by 10 runs, with Manish Pandey's unbeaten knock failing to seal a win.
Chasing a target of 188 runs, the David Warner-led side had a weak start, losing early wickets. It was only after the arrival of Jonny Bairstow and Manish Pandey, that they stabilized their run chase. Bairstow's innings of 55 off 40 balls, packed with five fours and three sixes was a delight to watch. After the departure of Bairstow and Pandey not receiving enough support, KKR cruised past SRH's batting order. The India international scored an unbeaten knock of 61 runs in 44 balls, consisting of three sixes and two fours but the critics are slamming that in spite of batting all through the innings Pandey couldn't take the team to the winning post. Prasidh Krishna taking two wickets was in hot form for KKR. Meanwhile, Pat Cummins, Andre Russell, and Shakib Al Hassan registered a dismissal each.
KKR earlier wrapped up their innings in 20 overs at 187 for six. Opener Nitish Rana slammed a half-century, giving his team a flying start. He slammed 80 off 56 balls, packed with four sixes and nine fours. He also built a fantastic partnership with Rahul Tripathi, who scored 53 in 29 balls. Former KKR captain, Dinesh Karthik gave the team a good finish with three boundaries towards the end and registered 22 runs off 9 balls. SRH's bowling department started poorly but staged a turnaround with Mohammed Nabi and Rashid Khan taking two wickets each. T Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, meanwhile, registered a dismissal each.
