Six months of ardent practice and hard work helped city-based boy Vyom Sharma become a speedcubing prodigy. Eight-year-old Vyom Sharma was interested in cubing from the age of six, and he has become the youngest speedcuber to solve a 3x3x3 cube blindfolded in 14 minutes, 5 seconds.
He achieved the feat in April, and now his name is mentioned in World Records India. While his parents saw his talent from a very young age, it was his coach who helped him think about attempting a record. His mother says he was fascinated by cubes even as a kid, and so they enrolled him in classes. He was exposed to pyraminx, 2x2x2, 3x3x3, skews.
When he joined the Rubik’s cube classes at his apartment, he was coached by popular speedcuber and World Cube Association (WCA) delegate Pavan Akula. After spotting his talent, he suggested that Vyom attempt a record.
All norms were followed to the T, and an A4 paper was put between blind-folded Vyom and Rubik cube to ensure double-check.
His parents want Vyom to decide what he wants to do when he grows up. They concur that there is no pressure on him.
