Sailing is slowly gaining popularity among kids from 10-20 as schools and colleges are promoting sailing as an activity and are helping some of the aspiring kids who are not from a well to do background to learn from the best and then go on to represent the school and country at national and international levels.
The 15-year-old Padidala Vishwanath from the city is all set to represent the nation at the Optimist World Sailing Championship at Riva Del Garda in Italy. The young lad is in Italy, where the championship began on June 30 and will conclude on July 10. The boy who is making it big for the country hails from a family where both his parents are daily wage workers. His father is amazed by his son's dedication and how well he has prepared for this.
Vishwanath is a Social Welfare Residential School student where he saw yachting at Hussainsagar and was so amazed that he wanted to learn it. The boy's passion led him to be selected in the Navy Boys Sports company. He trained and achieved many laurels through that academy and represented the country in 2017 at the Junior International Regatta, where he won the silver medal.
