The Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 is just a week away, and the Indian athletes are all set to go for gold in this edition of the biggest sports competition ever. The athletes in our country have braced the virus, and few also fought it and won and are now on the road to sporting glory.
Sania Mirza, the big-name in sports across the country and tennis world, has left Hyderabad's RGIA with her doubles partner Ankita Raina and will be representing the country in the women's doubles with her double's partner.
While Ankita Raina is a debutant in this big competition, Sania Mirza will be the first Indian woman to feature in the four consecutive Olympic Games(Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020). While she and her partner are one of the last to leave the country for Tokyo, the country's finest and city's proud silver medalist at Rio 2016, PV Sindhu is already in Tokyo and aims for the coveted gold medal. Mary Kom, Atanu Das, and Deepika Kumari from boxing and archery and the men and women hockey teams are already in Tokyo.
Unfortunately, the former world no.1, Olympic Silver and Bronze Medalist, and prolific badminton player Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth missed the bus to Tokyo due to covid 19 issues that stalled their one and only chance at Singapore will always be missed at the games, but the Indian stars are ready to shine and win every game that they represent.
