Hyderabad
Former South Africa pacer Dale Steyn is set to take over as the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling coach for the IPL 2022 season. Head coach Trevor Bayliss and batting coach Brad Haddin have stepped down from coaching the team following the team's poor performance in the IPL 2021. Hyderabad, which reached the play-offs in a row after winning the 2016 title, remained at the bottom of the points table in the IPL 2021 season.
The Sunrisers franchise also lost the services of its mentor VVS Laxman. Laxman has taken over as the Director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). With that, the Sunrisers, who was in the process of hiring support staff before the mega auction, seems to be trying to hire Dale Steyn as their bowling coach. Sunrise's management has already contacted Steyn on the matter.
Steyn took 97 wickets in 95 IPL matches. He played since the league opened in 2008. He represented Deccan Chargers, Gujarat Lions, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Steyn said goodbye to all forms of cricket this year. He played a total of 292 matches for South Africa and took 439 wickets in 93 Tests, 196 in 125 ODIs, and 64 in 47 T20s. Former Indian cricketer and Tamil Nadu all-rounder Hemang Badani is also likely to join the Sunrisers support team. Badani played 40 ODIs and four Tests between 2000 and 2004.
It is known that IPL 2022 season will be held with 10 teams. With that, a mega auction will be held. BCCI, which has already completed the retention process, is focusing on auction management. Sunrisers Hyderabad has retained Captain Kane Williamson along with Uncap players Abdul Samad and Umran Malik.
