Krishna Reddy, Ajay Birla, Manvita Reddy, Sharmila Reddy, and Saikrishna Reddy are friends from the Karimnagar district. They have pursued higher education have decided to take up organic farming on terrace gardens with an innovative idea. They worked hard for a year and learned farming techniques.
They set up Home Crop – a startup company to identify large bungalows in the Hyderabad metropolis as well as vacant spaces in the outskirts to cultivate crops. Geotextile fabric bags are specially made to cultivate crops in the balconies as well as terraces. High impact polythene bags were brought from Israel for eggplant, tomatoes, and Ridge gourd.
The bags are filled with coconut husk and vermicompost. This mixture provides essential nutrients to the plants. All the crops grow well and give high yields. Fees are charged depending on the area and the crops planted. They also inspect the crops on a monthly basis and give necessary instructions and advice.
Besides this, Home crop managers are conducting special classes in schools for the first time in the country to raise awareness on agriculture for future generations. They go to schools very often and teach students how to grow more crops in less space.
