Dr. Mohan Goli of Meruvax Pharma which is into making active pharmaceutical ingredients or APIs is now contemplating setting up a manufacturing unit worth Rs 30 crore. Dr. Goli intends to set up his latest unit in either Pharma City or Jedcharla. For the uninitiated, APIs refer to the primary ingredient or the biologically active component of a drug product. Now, the whole idea is to manufacture generic drugs, medicines that have the same chemical substance as a drug that was originally protected by chemical patents.
Later, the firm intends to tap into formulations, especially syrups and tablets. For now, the firm is into chemical process development, medicinal chemistry, custom synthesis, API intermediaries, and impurity profiles of drug molecules among others.
They also export to countries such as Italy, Israel, South Africa, the US, and the UK, according to Dr. Goli who is an alumnus of Osmania University. The company already has an R&D wing in the US where it employs 50 people and it has around 170 people in Hyderabad on its payrolls.
The latest facility that got delayed due to COVID will house research and development, pilot plant, and production units. Dr. Goli who came back from the US and set up his own pharma company also has an IT company that operates in Hyderabad, the US, and the UK. The focus is on banking, financial, and cybersecurity domains and has about 1450 employees, 200 of whom are based out of Hyderabad.
Dr. Goli also the head of the Aadhaya Goli Foundation that works to support the education of students, especially those from Telangana.
