Manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited ( BMEL), the first indigenously built metro rake has reached Mumbai on Thursday. This rake with six coaches is helpful in conducting the trial runs in the Line 2A (Dahisar East to DN Nagar) and Line 7 (Dishar) East to Andheri East).
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray , few Cabinet Ministers and Metropolitan Commissioner RA Rajeev will unveil this rake tomorrow i.e. on Friday 29th of January. The trial runs on metro lines 2A and 7 will commence from March with this rake.
Subsequently, these lines will be commercially operational in May. Made with stainless steel body, the metro rake also has features such as driverless train compatibility as well as energy friendly regenerative brake system.
Besides, the passengers can even carry their bicycles during the journey in the rake. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has the target of finishing the 337 Kms long metro network of Mumbai and its Metropolitan Region by 2026.
